Brandon Bailey
Sound Design and Experimental Music Artist
Professional Profile
As a Music Studies Major I was able to study the structure of music. I now understand melody, rhythm, counter point, harmony and form, tonal systems, scales, tuning, intervals, consonance, dissonance, the acoustics of pitch systems and composition. As a trained musician and playing trumpet in the UNO wind ensemble for several years under the direction of Dr. Charles Taylor, I understand the conceptualization of performance, orchestration, ornamentation, and improvisation.
More Over, I have a heightened knowledge in the area of electronic sound production. I have been
studying electronic music for over 10 years. In my ten-year journey I have studied digital audio software and techniques, audio programming, electronic music composition and collaboration media. Nevertheless,
I was able to use that knowledge gained over the years to earn an internship at Louisiana Media Productions in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I learned a great deal of understanding the film industry working at Louisiana Media Productions. I am glad to have had the opportunity to work with great individuals to gain knowledge and experiences. Currently I am enrolled at LSU as a graduate student studying in the
Digital Media Arts and Engineering Program (DMAE). In the program we explore cutting edge
developments in video games, interactive design, visual effects and animation. I work with a diverse
group of digital artists, programmers, musicians and researchers to help each other develop ideas for the future of media. Also I am learning project management techniques that are related to professional digital fields. I wish to use my skills to break into the media industry and take productions to the next level.

Area of Expertise

Student Spotlight:
My name is Brandon Bailey. I am a graduate student currently enrolled in the Digital Media Arts and Engineering program at LSU. I received my Bachelors of Arts Degree in 2014 from the University of New Orleans as a Music Studies Major. I am a trained trumpet player and have played with the UNO wind ensemble for several years. I became versed in the conceptualization of performance, orchestration, ornamentation and improvisation. I have always been drawn to the area of electronic sound production and have been studying electronic music for over ten years. I studied digital audio software and techniques, audio programming, electronic music composition and collaboration media, as well as, music production. I have also gained a great deal of understanding in the film industry working at Louisiana Media Productions.
In the DMAE program we explore the cutting edge developments in video games, interactive design, visual effects and animation. By being in this program, I have worked with digital artist, programmers, musicians and researchers who help each other develop ideas for the future of media. Another great experience I’ve had in the DMAE program is that I was able to learn project management techniques that are related to the professional media industry. I wish to use these skills to break into the media industry and take productions to the next level.
So far this year, I have worked on a number of projects. I produced music and sound design elements for the documentary “Redefining the Word”, directed by Jalea Jackson. I also work closely with the Experimental Music and Digital Media program and we are collaborating with the LSU Dance Ensemble. I am combining vocal and abstract audio recording techniques to produce sonic art that the dancers can perform to.
In my Advanced Programming and Digital Art class, I am creating a game in Unity3d that takes advantage of the Oculus VR so that the user can experience new performances, interaction and listening experiences. Most important is that my game uses 3d audio spatialization, which is going to help it's users to be more creative by changing the perspectives of their music.
My plan for 2016 is to have the opportunity to internship with a gaming or video production company, create music, sound design elements and graduate this December with a Masters in Digital Media.
